Spain had to play extra time for the second time in a row and this time even needed penalties. Luis Enrique’s team should have won the game after 90 minutes if you look at the number of missed opportunities. For the fourth time, Spain pushes through after a penalty shootout at a European championship. The last 3 times this happened it made it to the final.

If the Spaniards want to go to the final, they will have to be a lot more efficient against the stiff Italian defence. The Italians only conceded 2 goals in the last 1000 minutes of play, one of which was the penalty Lukaku scored in the quarter-finals.
