Coach Robin Veldman and captain Hendrik Van Crombrugge addressed the press in the Danish JYSK Park the day before the match.
Van Crombrugge: “The lead was unfortunately lost against FCSB, but in that match and against Eupen we showed our true face again at times. By finding the spaces, a lot of verticality and creating opportunities. I think the trainer has a clear way of playing in mind and that that is a way of playing that this group knows and that we can relate to.”

Silkeborg IF is the club from the Danish town of the same name of about 50,000 inhabitants. It became Danish national champion once in 1994 and won the Danish Cup in 2001. In Denmark, it is the club most often promoted to the top division, but also most often relegated.
When it was promoted to the Danish Superliga again last season, Silkeborg stayed far away from the relegation places. The PhD student managed to surprise in a 4-3-3 with attacking and neat football on the ground. The prolific attacking trio – Nicolai Vallys , Sebastian Jørgensen and Nicklas Helenius (pictured) – were dubbed “VHS” in the Danish press, by analogy with “MSN” or “BBC”. Thus, the revelation ended in third place, after FC Copenhagen and Midtjylland. Nicolai Vallys (Brondby) and Rasmus Carstensen (KRC Genk) saw their successful season cash in on a transfer. The rest of the squad was saved.
This season Silkeborg is provisionally fifth in the Danish league. It started strong, but couldn’t win the last four league games. In the group stage of the Conference League, Silkeborg started with two defeats against Purple & White and West Ham, but managed to win the double confrontation against FCSB twice with no less than 5-0. Last week Silkeborg lost 1-0 to West Ham. It thus has six points for the time being, one more than Sporting.
Coach Kent Nielsen has an almost fit core. Only Niclas Holm Pedersen and Gustav Dahl are injured.
